• Norberto “Beto” Salinas has been a resident of Mission for the last 45 years, a cattle rancher, and successful small business owner.
  • Beto Salinas has more than 42 years of experience in serving the community at the local, county and state levels.
  • In 1980 Beto Salinas was elected Hidalgo County Commissioner – Precinct 3 where he served for 12 years.
  • In 1991, Texas Governor Ann Richards appointed him to the Texas Funeral Commission and was later reappointed by Governor George W. Bush.
  • In 1998, he was elected Mayor of the City of Mission.
  • In 2001, Texas Governor Rick Perry appointed him to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.

Former Mayor Beto Salinas has proven to be able to work with both Democrats and Republicans and has an excellent relationship with county, state and federal officials, which has enabled him to secure much funding for the City of Mission.

  • Since Day 1, Beto Salinas always believed in an open door policy and as Mayor always made his mobile phone, email and personal business office address publicly available to the citizens of Mission. There was no doubt that he was a full time Mayor! 
  • Norberto Salinas believes in the power of Social Media as an important communi­cation tool, which allowed him to stay in contact with the citizens of Mission. In 2014, he opened his Facebook, Twitter and lnstagram accounts, where he received and addressed concerns from the public on a daily basis.
  • In his 20 years as Mayor, Beto Salinas managed to secure more than $500 million in county, state and federal funds for public safety, transportation, housing, infrastructure improvements, and parks.
  • It was due to this experience, leadership and devotion to public service that the City of Mission has experienced exponential growth and has been recognized as one of the best communities to live, work, and play in the Rio Grande Valley.

Norberto Beto Salinas has always put the residents of Mission first. He has proven leadership and experience that lead to the growth that Mission has had.
